The JAPEC Summer Camp is Unique!

Through various camp activities, children and staff build friendships, increase personal communication skills, and gain more confidence. And everyone has a lot of fun! The camp is very international in nature due to the large number of children and overseas camp staff that participate. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes if you don’t speak English well! Don’t be shy about doing something new! Be positive!

About the Summer Camp
This is a three-day, two-night camp that aims to promote international cultural exchange between foreign students and Japanese children. Participants will be divided into several groups for various activities. By having meals and doing various activities together in a small group, children will have a chance to get to know each other well and deepen their understanding of each other’s countries. The venue will be somewhere in the Kinki region. Participants will travel by chartered bus to the campsite. JAPEC plans various fun and challenging activities. Also, there will be time for everyone to learn about each others’ countries through presentations and performances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the percentage of foreign students/camp leaders and Japanese children?

We adjust the number of participants so that there is 1 foreign person for at least every 5 Japanese children.

How many staff members are there?

There is 1 adult staff member for every 5 children.
One camp leader and two Japanese assistants will be in each group.

Is it possible for parents to participate?

We do not accept that request.

Is it a problem for children who do not speak English well to participate in the camp?

There are many support staff members at the camp. If a child cannot speak English well, staff will help him or her to communicate.

How will participants do the activities at the camp?

Children will be divided into 6 or 7 groups. Children will do activities with the people in their group and will also have opportunities to communicate with other groups.

How will participants be divided into groups?

Individual participants will be grouped with other individual participants.Group participants will be placed 3 or 4 to a single group.

Is it possible for me to contact my child during the summer camp?

Participants will be allowed to call their parents during break times.JAPEC will not call parents except in case of an emergency.

What if a participant becomes sick or injured?

There is a nurse at the campsite and there is also a hospital nearby.All participants will be insured with group accident insurance.

I want to participate with my students as a group. Can teachers participate with them?

If your group contains 5 or more students, 1 teacher may attend the summer camp free of charge, provided the teacher helps as an assistant during the camp.

Is it possible for teachers who participate as a group teacher to be with their own students during the camp?

We ask that teachers act as assistants of a group which does not contain the teacher’s students in order to balance the camp better.

Is it possible for participants to request a particular group or room assignment?

Group participants may request to be with a few of their friends in the same group.
