History of JAPEC

1978 - The Japan Association for the Promotion of English for Children (JAPEC) is established.
Director: Shunji Terachi
-Tadahisa Goto (Emeritus Professor of Osaka University) become for the first chairperson
- Specialized journal "English Education for Children" is launched.
- An English song collection "Sing for Joy" is published.
1979 - Ten teachers specializing in English education for children are invited from the UK.
- The 1st JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
1980 - Japan Association for the Study of Teaching English to Children (JASTEC) is established.
- Mr. Tadahisa Goto assumes the position of chairperson: .
1981 - Shigetami Sunada (former Minister of Education) assumes the position of chairperson.
1985 - The first International Communication Camp in Hawaii is held.
1986 - The first edition of "Inter-JAPEC," an information magazine for English communication for children, is published.
- Aiko Anzai assumes the position of chairperson.
- "Inside Series," a manual of English education methods for children, is published.
- The 10th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
1987 - The third International Communication Camp in Hawaii is held.
- The "Listening Check," a teaching material compatible with the JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children, is published.
1988 - An English song collection "Sing for Joy Again" is published.
1991 - The Tokyo branch of JAPEC is established.
- The 15th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
1992 - Students from Robina Elementary School in Australia are invited to Japan, and an international communication event is held.
- An International Communication Camp for Children is held in Pennsylvania, USA.
1993 - The Jazz Chants Study Group is founded in Osaka.
1996 - "The SST Method," an instruction manual using video, is released.
- The 1st Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
- The 20th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 2nd Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
1997 - The 21st JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 3rd Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
1998 - The 22nd JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 4th Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
1999 - The JAPEC International Communication Program commences in the UK and Canada.
- The 23rd JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 5th Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
2000 - The JAPEC International Communication Program are held in the UK, the US, and Australia.
- The 24th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 6th Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
2001 - The JAPEC International Communication Program are held in Canada and the US.
- The 25th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 7th Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
2002 - The JAPEC International Communication Program are held in the US.
- The 1st JAPEC Summer Communication Camps are held in Nasu Kogen and Hachi Kogen in Japan.
- The 26th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
- The 8th Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
2003 - The JAPEC International Communication Program commences in the UK.
- The JAPEC Summer communication camp are held in Kamashima island off the coast in Okayama and Awakamogawa in Chiba.
- JAPEC Children's e-Test commences.
- The 9th Jazz Chants Seminar is held.
- The 27th JAPEC English Proficiency Test for Children is administered.
